In a certain store each customer pays a sales tax of 2% and is given a 10% discount for cash. That is, if a customer purchased an article priced at $100 and paid cash it would cost him $90 plus the sales tax or $91.80, since 2% of $90 is $1.80. Suppose the sales tax were computed on $100 and then the 10% discount allowed, would the resulting net cost be the same? why or why not?
