Gertrude and Bertha are sisters. They are responsible for keeping the family's driveway clear of snow. If they work together they can complete shoveling in 30 minutes. One day Gertrude had to do the job alone. It took her 40 minutes. How long would it have taken Bertha to shovel the same amount alone? You can assume that each girl always shovels at a constant speed.

In 1 minute, they can do \(\dfrac{1}{30}\) of the job together and Gertrude can do \(\dfrac{1}{40}\) of the job alone, so Bertha can do : \(\dfrac{1}{30}-\dfrac{1}{40}=\dfrac{1}{120}\) of the job alone

    The answer is : 120 minutes = 2 hours
